On offer here is a great combination of two very detailed representations of the first Roman Emperor, Augustus. Included is a replica collector card capturing the ambiance of a Roman ceremonial procession.
Born Gaius Octavius he ushered in an era of great prosperity that set the course of the Roman empire for maximum cultural influence throughout the Mediterranean and beyond.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone, these pieces have been given well developed aged patinas.
The detail of the bust itself is of a high quality and suggests it was once a very beautiful complete statue. It was likely used in palace furnishings or placed within a temple to be present for the rituals held there. It would thus be positioned to absorb the benevolence of all who passed by it.
