On offer here is a fine example of a Bes statue replica. The modelling is concentrated on the one side of this figure as the back remains flat suggesting use in a niche or a furniture component.
The colour is an aged light blue / green with a highlight of red on the tongue.
He wears his traditonal cheetah pelt with the tail falling between his legs and the head of the cheetah can be seen on the chest.
The exposed tongue, a feature of most Best statues, hints at his provocative nature.
Conceived to be a wild, yet jolly deity he would drive away the evil spirits or bad energy from the household.
Especially associated with childbirth, little people were often employed to take on his persona dressed in full regalia and banging a tambourine during the moment of birth.
