This attractive statue is a representation of the Goddess Isis in a crouched, seated pose wearing a tripartite wig surmounted by her throne headdress.

Her body is enveloped in a simplified cloth garment which offers a hint of her arms bent at the elbow with hands on knees.

The most famed of Egyptian Goddesses whose reach lasted from the early beginnings of Ancient Egypt right into the Roman era and ending with the beginning of Christianity. Beloved mother goddess of powerful magic and healing.

An interesting note worthy to ponder is when and where ancient Egyptian thought and writing ceased. When the doors closed at the temple of Isis on the Nile island of Philae, it was the very last stronghold where the last hieroglyphs were carved to express Egyptian thought ending over 3000 years of continuous culture.

To the ancient Egyptians the goddess was known as Iset / Aset and the name 'Isis' was the later Greek corruption of the word to fit their dialect which has been handed down to the modern era. The same with the word Shesep-ankh which became 'sphinx'............ which was also the name of my cat whose little pyramid can be seen on the Down under Pharaoh archive You tube channel.

It is of course unfortunate in the extreme that the name Isis....a name that evoked the highest reverence and affection has now been hijacked to mean something quite the opposite of healing and care. Hopefully one day the scales will balance to bring the name back into perspective.

Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone this particular piece has a well developed aged green patina with touches of oxide that give it quite an ancient appeal.
