Egyptian Scarab necklace

Strand length - 63.4 cm / 25 inches approximately.

Strand length can be increased with the use of the extender chain.

Available here is a unique, hand made Egyptian scarab necklace that features nine blue faience scarab beads flanked by a balanced selection of Nile clay beads.

All components are sourced from Egypt and made into an attractive one of a kind necklace by my sister Haley...the bead Queen at Down under Pharaoh.

Strong jewelers wire is used here for extra strength in what I must say is one of her best creations this season.

* I have Included with the necklace a larger feature scarab that may be thread onto a ribbon for a choker style neck feature or could be used to make a bracelet or necklace of your own design.

Background information

This association of the scarab as a symbol of renewal came to the Egyptians quite early in history as they observed the scarab breaking up animal dung and forming a spectacular perfect orb that was usually larger than the beetle itself.

The scarab would then begin rolling it along the ground to place it in it's burrow and lay eggs within it. To the Egyptians it was like the globe of the sun in miniature travelling across the ground instead of the sky, thus the scarab became connected with the solar god.

The fact that the ball of dung would eventually burst with new scarabs gave it an extra push into the ancient consciousness that this powerful little creature was indeed a symbol of rebirth.

In my teenage years while building my own Egyptian kingdoms on my grandparents remote farm, I used to watch these creatures in action, and they used to work in packs until the job of breaking up a cow patty was done. They were an introduced species to the Australian outback in the 1950's and a pocket of them luckily survived on our farm.
